COVID-19: Impact on Stroke and Stroke Patients

J Mocco, MD, discusses the significant increase of stroke in the New York metropolitan region during the COVID-19 outbreak, including among young patients who do not exhibit other risk factors for stroke. Dr. Mocco points to the procoagulant nature of COVID-19 as an area of concern. He also notes that people exhibiting stroke symptoms have been reluctant to come to the hospital during the outbreak, and stresses that patients should not wait to seek care.
