The Mount Sinai Reproductive Genetic Counseling Program provides specialized genetic counseling for patients planning a pregnancy or currently expecting. Our expert team, including genetic counselors and physicians, works closely with obstetrician-gynecologists, perinatologists, and reproductive endocrinologists to evaluate genetic risks and guide prenatal care. Common reasons for referral include advanced maternal or paternal age, abnormal nuchal translucency or serum marker results, abnormal ultrasound findings, multifetal pregnancies, and personal or family history of genetic disorders or birth defects. We also offer teratogen counseling and carrier testing for conditions like cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, and Fragile X syndrome.
By referring patients to our program, healthcare providers ensure their patients receive thorough genetic risk assessments and tailored prenatal care plans.
