Nasal obstruction may be due to multiple reasons, including a deviated septum, turbinate hypertrophy, nasal polyps, tumors, allergies, or chronic sinusitis and rhinosinusitis. Deviated septums and turbinate hypertrophy are incredibly common and can be addressed with minimally invasive endoscopic surgery through the nose using a small camera. The septum can be straightened by removing deviated cartilage and bone with or without repositioning it, and the turbinates can be partially resected or reduced. These procedures may be performed in isolation or in combination with sinus surgery or rhinoplasty (nose job). Septoplasty and turbinate reduction can also be performed when people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are having difficulty tolerating their CPAP machine. Because this is an incredibly common procedure, it may be performed by our sinus, general ENT, facial plastic, or sleep surgeons.
