Traditional guided bronchoscopy isn't good at reaching certain small lesions and some areas of the lung. As a result, diagnostic yields—the proportion of biopsies that result in a specific diagnosis—tended to hover around 60-70 percent. Now, a Mount Sinai researcher says that adding a cryoprobe helps achieve a definitive diagnosis in 90-95 percent of cases.
